The CIGateway application was developed by Acid Yellow for Certification International (CI). CI is
based in the United Kingdom and is a quality auditing and certification company. It specializes in
quality assurance auditing and management services for a variety of standards, including ISO9000. CI
has 350 employees operating in 26 countries.
Multi-level menus make navigation through the application easy.
CIGateway is a new application built to replace two existing systems; a networked Access database
and a PostGre-based web application. It is used internally at Certification International by all the
employees, as well as consultants in situations where CI does not have suitably qualified staff available
in an appropriate location.
The primary function of CIGateway is to enable auditing a range of qualification specifications to be
managed and executed electronically. When a new client approaches CI with a request for a specific quality
sector to be audited, CI uses CIGateway to determine which of its auditors is qualified to perform the audit
and is geographically positioned to do so. All the audit documentation is managed within CIGateway, and the
path through the audit process is recorded automatically by the application.
The system is prescriptive in nature and removes much of the former inefficiency of CI’s business. The
application notifies the appropriate people via email of tasks requiring their attention at the appropriate
time. It then records the time taken to complete tasks for review by regional or central managers.
Email integration enables processes to be audited within the application.
CIGateway has become the backbone of Certification International’s business. It provides support for every
function of the company’s operation, including staff management, resource allocation, client account management,
process management, document management, timekeeping and invoicing. CIGateway users range from auditors to
administrators and from external reviewers to senior managers. In addition, all of CI’s 26 regional offices
have their own regional version of the application, which enables them to interact internally with their own
staff and the head office of the parent company in the United Kingdom.
