Problem

You get this error when building your application in Iron Speed Designer:

Visual Basic .NET compiler is unable to recover from the following error: System Error &Hc0000005& (Visual Basic internal compiler error)
Save your work and restart Visual Studio .NET.

This error occurs in Visual Studio .NET 2002. Additionally, Visual Studio 2002 may hang in addition to emitting this error message. The compilation and hanging problem is due to a bug in certain versions of Visual Studio .NET 2002.

Solution

Microsoft has online knowledge base articles that describe these problems. The solution is to install Visual Studio .NET 2002 Service Pack 1. The URL for the service pack is

Note: It takes at least an hour to install the service pack.
